Ohio's Shuttle Loss May Not Have Been A Loss After All

It was a much-publicized loss in Ohio for not getting one of the retired Space Shuttles to come to the Dayton Area.  Instead of the "real" Space Shuttle, the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force at Dayton is getting a training cab. See the February announcement piece.

After visiting one of the places that got one, I'm not sure it was a total loss for Ohio.

My photos above are of Discovery, the retired shuttle on display at the National Air and Space Museum at Dulles Airport.  August 1 saw my youngest kids and I visit to see it.

Yes, it's pretty cool stuff.  I was glad to see it.  It's what I didn't see that has me wondering whether Dayton may have won out after all.

This training module will be built in such a way as to allow people to walk into the shuttle, presumably standing in the cargo bay and peering into the crew cab.

That's what's missing at Dulles.  You aren't allowed inside.  You just get to look at it.  I want to get inside one!
