The Value of Perspective

I slept in a box car to gain a new perspective.

Taken on it's own, that phrase sounds pretty bad.

Mind you, my box car wasn't like the Plaza Hotel, but it wasn't as bad as one might think. The box car was air conditoned with showers, toilets, and comfortable beds at the "Big Rock Valley" near Cassopolis, Michigan.

It was all part of the 40-member Economic Development Research Partners' retreat. The International Economic Development Council organized it. The Edward Lowe Foundation hosted it.

I found much value joining 20 colleagues from 14 different states in gaining a new perspective on economic development.

Everyone should get away to a box car every now and then.
