Pennsylvania Got The Cracker, But. . .

. . . it's location more north and east of the Utica Shale play makes another one in Ohio still viable.

That's how I'd spin Ohio's reported loss of the $1+ billion ethane cracker project.

Most of the polymer and manufacturing industry in Ohio, likely deployers of the products from a ethane cracker, are well beyond an hour's truck drive from the Monaca, PA site.  If the Utica Shale gas proves to be the huge wet gas producer many predict, some investor is going to want to put a cracker plant further west than Monaca to save on both inbound raw material and outbound product transport costs.

Below is a Google map link to the site I believe, from public reports, is the one that Shell has optioned as its preferred site.  It's a great site for someone willing to make a big redevelopment investment.  It's got rail access, barge access, and great highway access too.

But, it's not alone in that regard.  There are others, in Ohio.
