Working Both Sides of The Brain

Newark has a glorious sports history in a wide range of athletic endeavors. Newark Catholics' volume of football championships has few rivals. One of our highways is named for Cubs great and Newark native Ernie Banks and Texas Rangers starter Derek Holland honed his skills in his hometown ballfields right here.

The opportunities for kids in football, soccer, baseball, basketball, ice hockey, and a ton of other sports is unmatched. It really is extraordinary for a town of 50,000 people.

My kids have dabbled in about everything.

Work on the other side of the brain is pretty darn strong too. My boys are heading to guitar lessons today and my daughter sees voice lessons weekly too. At eight years old, my daughter already has tried out for full-production theater.

Today's paper referenced an upcoming Susuki violin concert and The Works offers art opportunities on par with big city counterparts. Newark's high school symphonic group made national news headlines a couple years back for their prowess.

Oh yeah, did I mention we're just 35 miles from Columbus? There's that too.
