A Silver Lining in Unemployment Rate

People are still hurting.  No question.

The unemployment rate remained a steady 11.1% in Licking County.  Last month, that number was enough to be above the state average.

However, I see a silver lining in this news.

The Advocate article reports this fact:  "The number employed actually increased by 500, identical to the jump in the county’s labor force."

I've always been one to say that employment is the number to track.  Not unemployment.

Unemployment can actually increase when more people are optimistic and start seeking employment.

The fact that employment is up is a positive.  No doubt about it.
