I Bought a Bike Without a Banana Seat

My first bike was a hunter green version of this Schwinn banana seat bike shown above.  It was a hand-me-down from my Uncle Mark in the early 1970's.

My second bike was a 10-speed Huffy with the hooked handle bars.  It was a red version of the one below.

I saved up my paper route money to buy the Huffy in 1978.  It cost $75 as I recall.

I never owned a third bike.  Until now.

For $69, I bought a brand new nameless brand.  I've been threatening to buy a bike for years as I saw my kids advance in their skills and knowing that they'd be more mobile than mere walking could handle.

Using their grandma's gift card and some daddy cash, my kids went with me to buy their bikes as they had outgrown their 12" training-wheeled bikes.

Seeing that clearance rack bike sitting there, I tried it out.  Now it's my bike.

Can I live without hooked handle bars and a banana seat?  Indeed.

I had another motive.  I'll be biking May 17-21 as part of Tri-City Bike-to-Work Week in Central Licking County.  A "kit" for businesses is online at http://lickingcountytrails.com/bike2work. Join me!
