Government Innovator

To some skeptics, the title of this column is an oxymoron.

I'm proud that the Heath-Newark-Licking County Port Authority team are innovators.  And, yes, we are government too.

A few years back, Total Facilities Magazine reported on the Port Authority's application of wireless networking technology saying, "While the HNLCPA is a government entity. . .it operates like a private company." It added a few other buzz words:  “impressive,” “ambitious,” and cost-effective.

Using in-house resources, our team built a solar-powered, wireless internet camera system to monitor construction projects on our campus.  We celebrated one year of continuous operation solely on the sun.

We also have a trailer hitch device for testing fire hydrants.

It sounds like a marketing concept, but I think its true.  The Port Authority is a government innovator.
